I have called Barrie home for 50 years. It is where I grew up, went to school, built my career, started a business, volunteered, and raised my family.
Ward 1 is my community. Our neighbourhoods are special and as the owner of a designated heritage property, I have worked to preserve and celebrate the character that makes our ward unique.
Public service has always been part of my long-term plan. With deep community roots, extensive municipal experience, and a lifelong commitment to community, I believe the time is right to serve Ward 1 residents. I want to help ensure Ward 1 remains a safe, well-represented, and a vibrant place for generations to come.
Community involvement has always been important to me. My husband is a local business owner, and together we proudly support organizations including RVH, Hospice Simcoe, Barrie Minor Hockey, and Barrie Minor Soccer.
I have also spent many years volunteering in Barrie's arts community, including as a long-standing Board member of Talk Is Free Theatre. I helped bring Doors Open to the Barrie community and I am involved with May Court Club's Homes for the Holiday event.
As a member of Barrie's Heritage Committee, I have been active in advocating to City Council to preserve, protect and celebrate Barrie's cultural heritage.
In 2025, I was honoured to be named a finalist for the Barrie Chamber of Commerce's Women in Business Awards.
I believe in giving back to the community that has given so much to me.
For more than 30 years, I have worked in strategic communications in municipal, federal, and school board environments. I understand how government works, how decisions are made, and how to navigate complex issues to achieve results.
My career has involved managing issues, leading major strategic initiatives, engaging communities, and bringing people together around important projects. These are the skills I will bring to City Hall on behalf of Ward 1 residents.
I have spent my life building trusting relationships by listening and responding when people need me. This is the basis of strong leadership and it is how I will represent you as Councillor.
I have a proven track record and the kind of experience needed to represent the best interests of Ward 1. Whether through public-sector communications, business ownership, or community service, I bring real, hands-on experience to the role.
I believe that good leadership is not about having all the answers, but rather bringing people together to find them.
Throughout my career, I have built a reputation for listening carefully, understanding different perspectives, and finding common ground. I believe good decisions come from meaningful conversations, thoughtful planning, and respectful collaboration. I am committed to building respectful, trusting relationships on behalf of Ward 1.
As your Ward 1 Councillor, I will be accessible, responsive, and dedicated to the residents I will serve. My role is to listen, advocate, and work toward practical solutions that strengthen our community.
We live in a special part of Barrie and I am committed to making sure our neighbourhoods are developed responsibly, and remain safe and vibrant.
The question isn’t whether Barrie will grow. The question is how and where we grow.
As our community grows and develops, we must also work to preserve the character, history, and sense of belonging that make Ward 1 special. As a current member of Barrie’s Heritage Committee, this is exactly the work I actively do on behalf of our city.
Residents must have a meaningful voice in decisions that impact their neighbourhood. Development must make sense, and when it doesn’t, I will be a strong advocate for change.
Everyone deserves to live in a clean and well-maintained neighbourhood. That includes homeowners, renters, students, seniors and families.
Basic property maintenance is not an option, and we must be clear and definitive about expectations. I am committed to a proactive approach to tackling absentee landlords through strong communication, enforcement and follow-up.
I will also pursue an active partnership with Georgian College and look at best practices from other post-secondary communities to tackle recurring issues related to student housing.
Speed on residential streets and petty crime are legitimate and ongoing safety concerns.
Traffic calming measures work, but there are not enough options available for our neighbourhoods. Measures are distributed sparingly and often only after mounting complaints from concerned citizens. We must change this approach by proactively investing in and implementing measures where they are needed.
Residents are increasingly concerned about petty crimes, like car break-ins. Our police respond when issues occur, but safety isn’t just about policing. It’s also about how we design, light, maintain and manage our neighbourhoods. I am committed to working with residents, city staff and police to explore options for neighbourhoods impacted by recurring issues.
Affordability, housing, and homelessness are challenges facing communities across Ontario, and Barrie is no exception.
Important progress is already being made to address these complex issues, and we must continue this critical work collaboratively and with compassion. City Council has an important role to play in bringing people together, advocating for our community, and supporting solutions that are proven effective, based on research and what’s working in other jurisdictions in Canada and around the world.
With my extensive experience in strategic planning and managing complex issues, I will play an active role in furthering the work already underway. The solutions aren’t easy and will take time, but I will be a strong advocate for the changes we need to make.
Every new capital project comes with a future operating cost. We need to understand the full cost to taxpayers before we commit.
Barrie is entering an important and exciting period of growth, with major community investments and infrastructure decisions ahead. We must balance planning for the future with our obligation to protect taxpayers. This is something I learned from Hazel McCallion, one of the most respected municipal leaders of our time.
I will ask the tough questions at City Hall. Are we exploring other municipal revenue opportunities that don’t simply rely on property taxes? Are we being clear and accountable to taxpayers about budgets, timelines and accountability measures? Can projects be phased or delivered differently to reduce pressure on taxpayers? Are there efficiencies that can be realized at City Hall through AI and other technological advancements?
Great communities don’t happen by accident. They’re built when people have places to gather, opportunities to participate, and reasons to feel connected to where they live.
East end Barrie is a special community, and we need to do more to celebrate and connect our neighbourhoods. I want to promote and participate in events and initiatives that bring residents in Ward 1 together — community BBQs, events that promote arts and culture, and opportunities to use our public spaces for community programming. I am also committed to using my role as Councillor to support community-driven ideas and initiatives that make our city a better place.
As a communications professional, community engagement through focus groups, surveys and regular communication is critical to me. The lines of communication will be open. I will be active and present in our community, and I will always respond promptly when people reach out.
Ward 1 needs a strong, experienced and solution-focussed advocate in its corner. I will work hard to represent the best interests of our community with integrity and determination.
